“USA 🇺🇸 ~Scenic Texas to Louisiana and Arriving in N’awlins!”

Louisiana, Here We Come!

We sure enjoyed our visit with friends in Texas, and time went too fast, as usual! Departure day arrived and after setting the clocks back, recently, sunrise came earlier for us. This was actually a good thing, because we wanted to get to our next destination in one-day drive.

This would be a 9-hour day for us, including one Power Nap for Daryl and one fuel stop, just a few hours from our destination.

We got up early, as usual this morning, on a day where we needed to cover a lot of miles, but when we turned on the engine, to bring in the slides and raise the jacks, an ear splitting alarm went off. It was like the smoke alarm, but way worse. We started going through the checklist. Daryl got the owners manual out. Nothing was working, so I put a post out on this really great Facebook Page I follow, of other Winnebago Tour owners and asked for help. It’s amazing how many people take the time to help, if they can. Its greatly appreciated.

“Good morning,
We broke camp this morning, but aren’t driving away, like we have many times, before…..When our engine is turned on, there is a high pitched alarm going off. Turn engine off, and it’s silent. (It is not the smoke alarm) All slides are in and locked, jacks are stored. Hookup connectors are all put away. We have power everywhere like normal.
The dash indicators are showing nothing is amiss. My husband is looking in the huge manual ….Has anybody dealt with the alarm I describe? Help. Anybody? TIA 2016 Tour 42QD”

I got lots of great suggestions, like ones we already tried, related to air pressure psi/engine/brakes/jacks, and finally the right one, from somebody named “Ian.” He suggested we check the foot rest on the drivers seat. Make sure it is fully retracted. He said he remembers that this oversight sets off an alarm.

BINGO! That was it! Whew!!!

I promptly put an update on my post:

UPDATE:
It was the driver side seat… the foot rest was, just a fraction. Good gracious. Quite an alarm for such a little thing. TY Ian!

As it would turn out, the night before, Daryl lost an ear bud, when sitting in that driver seat chair. He did find his ear piece, but not before messing with the numerous controls; raising the seat up and down, and of course raising the foot rest, up and down, looking. When he put the foot rest down, he didn’t get it back all the way; missed it by a fraction of an inch!

The alarm was definitely over-kill and it was quite a stressful way to start the early morning. Visually, the foot rest looked complete down, so it wasn’t even on our radar, as we fumbled around trying to get a resolution. All I could see in my head was dollar signs! We didn’t dare drive, because we thought it had to be an engine issue for such an alarm; though we have had zero issues in that department and we just did all the maintenance, in October.

We got the foot rest “under control,” and we could finally depart! I was grateful it was a simple thing, but then annoyed at the same time.

“Dear Winnebago; R and D, when you get a chance, in the future, could you get the coaches set up, so the blaring alarms go off, ONLY when it is a serious issue, please?”

We lost a half hour of time, but hey, we did, in-fact, get underway, so that’s what counts. We drove and drove again, till finally we left Texas and entered Louisiana. Once we got on I-10; the interstate, we once again encountered tough roads and construction, till we were well into Louisiana.

Soon, we were surrounded by all the Bayous, Swamps, Bogs and Lakes, and this is where the drive gets more interesting to me. I love the vibe in Louisiana; always have, and we look forward to spending some time in the area, once again. I kept an eye out for Alligators. We actually saw one, unfortunately dead on the road. 😥

Daryl has not been to N.O., since he was 18, and though I’ve been many times, we have never been, together ❤️

I ate Gumbo, for the first time, many years ago, during my first trip to NOLA, whilst in the French Quarter. After that, I perfected my own recipe, with some practice. Gumbo is still one of my all-time-favorite foods! My mouth is watering for some Gumbo, right now! I can’t wait till we get there!!!

⬆️ Got my Gumbo on at “The Gumbo Shop!” YUM!

I got us in to the closest RV place there is, to the French Quarter. It is, in fact, called: French Quarter RV Resort. They say it’s close enough to walk to Bourbon Street and all, and perhaps this is so, but it’s the wrong time of year to be walking anywhere in this city. It gets dark so
early, now, so we will happily drive our Bug. We have only two full days to play, while here, so we will make the best of our time.
I’ve got some things lined-up for us, and it’s gonna be great!
