“USA 🇺🇸 Florida ~Historic Pensacola Village, Lobster Rolls and Our Drive to Tallahassee”

With one day left, at our stay in Alabama, which we really enjoyed, because it was such a great spot to hang out in, in the Deep South, we took a drive back over to Florida, to visit the Historic Pensacola Village. We had gloomy weather, but the rain held off, so it was an enjoyable outing.

The village covers about 8.5 acres with 28 properties that range in architectural style from Greek Revival to Folk Victorian. One of the beautiful things about the Village is that truly spotlights the diversity of Pensacola’s 450+ years, all in a few square blocks. Eleven of the properties are open to tour groups, and guided tours are offered several times a day.

Established in 1559, by Don Tristan de Luna and Spanish settlers, Pensacola is America’s First Settlement. Pensacola is proud of its rich heritage and significant place in America’s history. Often referred to as “The City of Five Flags,” Pensacola is known for having changed ownership several times.

After driving around with no hope of finding a parking spot, even on a Sunday 😜, when home tours and the museums are closed, we decided to look for a restaurant called the “Lobster Cage.” We enjoyed eating YUMMY Lobster Rolls, and reminiscing about our awesome trip to Maine, a few years back. We also enjoyed visiting with the owners. They have a very nice place with great food!

Departure day, from Alabama came way too fast. It was also a gloomy, gray day, but thankfully the rain was minimal on our drive. We are done doing the nine-hour days, so what a relief that is. I (we) were a little apprehensive to get on the road again, since on our last drive day, we had a scare, and it freaked me out a bit.
We were crossing a bridge, driving in the right lane, when a semi truck driver passed us on the left, going way too fast, as it seems they always do. When he passed us, his trailer swerved in to our lane and we had nowhere to go. We were on a bridge! Daryl handled it all, very well, and I closed my eyes, after I saw mere inches between our front cab of The Whale, and that truck drivers’ trailer, coming at Daryl! I don’t know how (other than a miracle) we escaped disaster, but we did.

We have experienced a few miracles, with Angel assists, while driving so many miles over the last few years in The Whale, with Jonah tagging along, behind. For this, we are always grateful!

I don’t think either one of us were in the mood for another drive day, but we got on the road, anyway. We’ve had multiple time zone changes, recently, and the early darkness that is now hitting us, as we head in to winter is affecting us, somewhat. I’m sure others can relate.

Here we are in Florida, and no sunshine, and after leaving Pensacola behind, there was nothing really to speak of, in terms of scenery. Sunshine would have helped make; what there was to see,  pop a little better, but this day drive was not what most people imagine Florida to look like, as we continued on Interstate 10, going East. It’s a long drive with woods all around and a few swamps along this route.

Florida, is, in-fact, our seventh continual US state, driving I-10. I think we are ready for a change. We have one more drive day, tomorrow, and we will get our wish, after we reach St Augustine.

For tonight, we are staying over in Tallahassee, at a nice RV Park, where we arrived safe and sound. No Rest Stop stays or Walmart stays are allowed in Florida, so we forked over $72 for one night. It’s like highway robbery, but actually it’s just the high price of Florida.

We had a five-hour drive day, including a fuel stop
