“USA 🇺🇸 Alaska ~Soldotna Salmon Fishing and a Cloudy Scenic Drive to Homer”

Up with the sun…. Oh wait, it’s not really like that, here in Alaska. I was up at 2 in the morning, to meet up at the boat by 3:15 AM. Apparently I would be the only guest on this boat, as the other chartering folk were fishing for Halibut, today.
I will get to Halibut fish from Homer, next.
During summer months, in the “land of the midnight sun,” it is never fully dark, but with cloud cover, it was a bit more so.

Before 3:30AM, we were loaded up and on our way to where the Red Salmon (aka Sockeye Salmon) could be found.
We started on the Kenai River and ended on the Kasilos River, which runs off of the Kenai.
I caught my limit, with only a few getting away. Then, the guide gave me his fish, too. Big score!
I was back at The Whale with my Bunny, by noon.

Homer, Alaska

This is our third and final stop on the Kenai Peninsula

We drove from Soldotna to Homer, this morning, on the 4th of July.
Again, we continued on the Sterling Highway which is a good road, and we arrived at our destination in just a few short hours.

We have a lot of fun lined-up this week out of Homer, and when we depart the Peninsula, we drive back, due North a ways, to stay in Palmer.
Chelsie (daughter) and I started the countdown a few days ago. We will pick her up in Anchorage, in less than a week!
!!STOKED!!

We have a beautiful camp site, with an amazing view of the bay!

There is a Bald Eagle nest just over the edge, facing the water, and our campsite has their “roosting” tree on it, up top.
We spoke to somebody on the grounds, who has been around here for 8 years. He watched many a young Eaglets learn to fly from that local nest.
Within 30 minutes of our arrival, we got to see three Bald Eagles! As I remembered from being here, fishing, before, the Eagles are good size; bigger than any others I’ve ever seen in Alaska.

I’m no expert, but I suspect the amount of fresh Salmon, being readily available all around here, has a lot to do with that.
The same can be said of the enormous Kodak Bears, who do not very often have to rely on a vegan diet to sustain them; with Salmon being aplenty and also being the much preferred meal.
We are going to really enjoy this stay!
In a few short days, we will get to visit Clark National Park by boat, where many, many Bears roam. I might get to do some clamming on this boat trip, but that will depend on if the Grizzlies are digging for clams, too.
They obviously get dibs!!
