“Serbia 🇷🇸 ~The Kindness of a Stranger; Overnight in Put za Divoriste”
We went to sleep with another storm raging outside, the kind of noise in nature that lulls one into a deep sleep. We could have easily been sleeping out car tonight, instead of in a comfy bed.
This morning, I awoke to the church bells sounding in the village. The storm had moved on and it is now only cloudy. I am feeling so full of gratefulness for every step of our journey, which is forever being guided by our guardian angels.
“We try never to go faster, than our Guardian Angels can fly!”

With hotels being few and far between, where we are traveling, currently, we pushed our daylight further than normal to see everything we could. It is quite a drive in to this area; around these twisty roads, from the closest city. We were in a bit of pickle, because we knew if we drove out, we would not want to come back, though we really wanted to finish seeing the Despotovac area.
We finally stopped at a restaurant, after 40 minutes of driving around in hopes of finding some lodging. The one we did find (the only advertised show in town), was a small property, and fully booked, of all things! But, we saw the local crowds at nearby Krupaj Springs, so we weren’t really surprised, as it is the weekend.
I asked at this restaurant if they knew of any rooms for rent. A very nice man began speaking German to me, which I’m use to, because I get mistaken for a “Fräulein” all the time! 🤣. This man knew zero English, but he seemed to understand what I was saying. He motioned for us to follow him, where I though we might go next door or something. But, he got in his truck and we followed him. He parked and indicated we follow him in the car. This first place must not ha evwithed, so Daryl and this man crossed a footbridge to another place with an apartment in it and made all the arrangements for us in his language. We were in no position to barter, so accepted the 40 Euro (with no A/C or WiFi, but those continue to be first world problems for us). We actually had driven by this property a couple of times, but it’s quite clear ya need to know somebody to rent rooms from, when not advertised by road signs.

We were so grateful for the kindness of this perfect stranger who went out of his way for two weary travelers. We got set up in our apartment for the night, and went back to the kind mans restaurant for a delicious, home-cooked meal, where we were given two complimentary side dishes!
The kindness locals show us, always move me and I feel emotional from the gestures, every time!
