“Serbia 🇷🇸 ~Listine Waterfall and Village, Near Despotovac”

We are so glad we were able to spend the night in the Despotovac area, because missing this waterfall and surrounding area would have been a mistake!

as the waterfall was really pretty. Normally we don’t go out of our way for waterfalls, during the hot part of the summer, but because of the recent rains, we thought for sure the waterfall would be running strong; and it was. What we did not expect was the darling and charming Village, which is associated with the waterfall area.

If you’re adventuring throughout the Homolje region in Eastern Serbia, then the Lisine Waterfall is a great pitstop destination. It’s nestled amidst the lush forests, karst caves and fresh river courses of the Beljanica Mountain, and is located nearby one country’s most popular caves’ Resava and most inaccessible canyons. All in all, this waterfall is situated in prime adventure territory.
The Lisine Waterfall was once considered the tallest in Serbia until new waterfalls were discovered on Stara Planina during the 1990s. Nevertheless, this picturesque beauty is worth seeing. Here the water of the Veliko Vrelo River plummets, before filling a shallow basin and running off downstream. You will notice that the water is crystal clear and if you follow the river you will come across some cascades, a small man made bridge, as well as old mills turned into restaurants, serving freshly caught trout.

Again, we saw crowds, everywhere we went today. We saw locals enjoying their summer vacation, plus, it is the weekend, and all through our journey in the Balkans; Saturday or Sunday, and in some countries both days, are days spent away from work, enjoying life. It is really the first time in six months we have dealt with crowds, so it was a bit shocking to have to share space, again. We have been so spoiled!!

After we checked out the waterfall, we wandered. The Village wound around some trails and there were several water features from the run-off of natural springs. There was an old mining cabin on display, restaurants, Gypsy wagons, and souvenirs buying opportunities, if you are in to that sort of thing.

We timed our visit perfectly, because as we headed back to the car, the thunder started rolling again. Back in the car, it let loose, and we missed getting drenched by minutes!
