“Romania 🇷🇴 ~Driving Through Medias, after Leaving Sighişoara”
After touring the Sighişoara Citadel, we were back in the truck and heading for our next adventure, when, typical of me, I see a very tall steeple in a town from the distance. So, we entered another ancient town to check it out.
We brake for amazing Strongholds and Churches

Although evidence of human presence in the area dates back to the middle-Neolithic,
Mediaş was first mentioned, in a written document, during the Roman occupation as Per Medias; meaning “the town at the crossroads.”
In 1283, after the Saxons settled in Transylvania, the city became Sacerdos de Medias, and in 1389, it was renamed Villa Medies.
The Fortified church of St. Margaret represented the core around which the citadel gradually developed.
The center of the ancient settlement of Medias has maintained a medieval feel with narrow winding lanes, centuries-old houses and a large square surrounded by colorful facades.

We happen to be in the region of Romania, where all the major Fortified Churches can be found, and that was very special. We did not stay long, but it was a worthy distraction

The “Stephan Ludwig Roth” High School is one of the biggest schools in Medias, also the oldest high school in the city. The high school has a real tradition in the field of teaching in German, dosen of students graduate each year the 12th class, with high knowledge of German.
The school has his name from the well known pastor and teacher; Stephan Ludwig Roth, who participated on the 1948 Revolution and was, for several years, director of the former “German High School,”with rich the current high school bears his name.
The “Stephan Ludwig Roth” High School has a history that stretches more than 400 years.

the St. Margaret Evangelical Church, dominates Old Town Mediaş.
Two rows of walls; 24 ft. high and 3 ft. thick, surround the structure.
The church features three superb gothic altarpieces, a colorful baroque organ and early 15th century frescoes.
A wonderful collection of, 14th and 15th centuries, Oriental rugs and killims were
donated by local tradesmen, are on display.
