“Greece 🇬🇷 ~Freedom From Isolation”

Having the Greece COVID19 isolation order lifted, on this Monday morning; May 4, 2020 and walking outdoors, without first obtaining permission from the Government with a “movement permit,” or having the fear of being stopped by the police for being visible, was like walking out of a fog and into the light! It was an absolute joy to feel such freedom again!

On our walk-about, this morning, after wandering in and around a few shops, we hung out in Fira Square “people watching,” enjoying our purchased coffees, visiting with the locals, AND waiting for our overdue haircut appointments at 1PM. Barbers and stylists all over Fira were very busy today; so much so, it was by appointment only!

We enjoyed our exploring, today, and while there were no tourists that we saw, there were plenty of locals driving and walking around. It was a bevy of activity we had not witnessed, here, on a Greek Island, yet.

Every day we look forward to listening to these bells marking the hour and half hour. A present view and landmark that we are close to home
The big guy got a head start on me, this morning. Eventually, I also got out and I was hoping we would run into each other… and guess what? We did. Soulmate status has us always drawn to each other. Fira is not super large, but it’s not small, either. So many alleys and walkways wind all up and down the hillside
I have been on the lookout for a new pair of sandals for awhile now. This place was interesting. All homemade leather sandals. Not what I was looking for, but interesting
I did not stay too long, browsing the leather sandal line, because I’m not a big fan of second-hand smoke…this is something to be found in Europe for sure. Smoking is allowed everywhere. Unlike the American laws, forbidding smoking in public places
I make friends all over town, many are cats. Shop owners are happy to see me out
So many beautiful flower arrangements all over the Islands. I appreciate the special effort made by the locals
We stopped by this artist’s shop. What a find! I bought postcards, a shot glass for us, and trinkets for the grandkids
The artist was working on this painting
A very fun shop, indeed. Lots of quality items and beautiful artwork!
The Fira cable car is not running right now…sadly
Daryl has done a lot of shopping at this butcher shop. They have kept us well fed!
The butcher even let me cut some of the meat we buy
There was a serious line at the Barber Shop
It was exciting..freedom from isolation, and a haircut; all in the same day!
a warm feeling of love came over me as I watched my Bunny get her haircut
A bit about the hand-made gifts we bought for each of our grandchildren.
Read about this Greek traditional superstition

“Some Greeks believe that one can catch the evil eye 🧿 from someone’s else’s jealous compliment or envy. A person who has caught the evil eye 🧿 feels bad; both physically and psychologically. In Greek, this is called “Matiasma.” To avoid Matiasma, those believe in the evil eye, wear a charm; a little blue marble glass with an eye painted on it. Blue is the color that wards off the evil eye 🧿”
I love all the white buildings, and then a bright blue one, every now and again, adds a beautiful blast of color!
We call him “Hitler”
This was fun. We noticed a restaurant we had eaten food out of, yet had never been in person! Though closed now, when we first arrived on the island, this restaurant was open and doing delivery only. Our first villa had no kitchen, so we doThank n’t know what we would have done without this place. Great food, and delivery was prompt, by motorcycle!
This was from this restaurant where I ate “Mousaka” for the first time, and was hooked. I was inspired to learn how to make it, myself, and this would eventually lead to me being shown, first hand, how to make this popular Greek dish! Before today, we only had a menu from this restaurant, provided by the hotel we were at. Now we know where it is located at in Fira!
Bougainvillea is one of my favorite blooms!
We love the Santorini cats
This is a very popular item to purchase. If the shop opens up, I want to buy one. They are old, classic-design grape vines from actual vineyards. What a fun wreath this would make, anytime of the year, with different embellishments
Not far from our home base, we get to enjoy the bells tolling every day… I love Europe and their ringing bells! 🔔
