“Daryl’s Hair Journey ~Part II of VI”

First Six Days

The good news is.. I feel hair growing back on Daryls whole scalp. The implanted top hair feels very strong and corse, so far. After three rough nights, trying to sleep sitting up, which is a requirement due to better circulation, Daryl could finally lay horizontal, by night four. This does not mean he is sleeping well, but he is more confortable.

By day six; today, he finally gave in and took some pain medication the nurse gave him, for; “just in case.”

Daryl is not his usual self. He’s making an effort to smile and be happy, but it is quite understandable to feel post-op discomfort from such a procedure….Having a machine poke 3,800 holes in your scalp to implant hair is going to hurt, when the anesthesia wears off. Besides that, Daryls head was filled with water, under the scalp, prior to implanting the harvested hair. The water was drained, after the procedure.

Post-op requirement is to drink massive amounts of water. Also, no lifting for a month. He is doing both. So far at every hotel, I have asked if someone can help us with luggage and this has not been a problem. I move around the luggage inside the room.

For four more days, Daryl continues a foam lotion spray on the implant area, then he must wait forty minutes to shower it off. This takes some planning ahead. (pun intended) 🤣 and use the special shampoo, next. The shampoo is soaped up in his hands, first, but is only dabbed lightly on to his new hair. The harvested area he can scrub lightly, but he says it’s very tender. Water for this cleaning part can only be warm, not hot.

Foamed head, from follow- up appointment

When going outside, Daryl is to wear a cover at all times. He has a black scarf I tie on his head. It’s a good look 👀

Today, we were required to text photos to the nurse; of all sides of his head, to see if there is still swelling. (the fat-head syndrome) He has medication on hand to take, if so. Daryl also told her how he was feeling:

“My head tingles and I have a headache. My ears are ringing. I am having trouble sleeping, but I look handsome.”

Daryl is continuing with the necessary round of Antibiotics, (Cipro) but is done with his circulation medication. Once the nurse checks the photos, she will let us know if he continues the anti-swelling meds. (The nurse texted back and said to finish the anti-swelling meds).

Tonight Daryl will take pain meds before sleep, as one of the reasons he feels bad is because he needs more rest. We are in an excellent place to relax by not moving hotels every night. We will do some fun things, but nothing strenuous. The next four days will be more

  1. Well, I must say, he is one tough cookie. He must have wanted more hair very badly. I couldn’t do it because I don’t have much tolerance for pain, at least on my head. I’m very tender headed. Keep giving the updates please.

    1. Yes he is pretty tough! I’m proud of him. It’s a slow process, but we will keep doing the updates for sure. The response is very good on peeps wanting to know. I’m proud that D is being open… of course hair again will be pretty obvious! Thx Judy!

  2. Looks great!! I love that you are sharing your journey! I think you look great already but I am so happy for you. This is a great look also!!
