Indonesia 🇮🇩 ~Komodo National Park”

Komodo National Park is home to the largest, unique and rarest lizard species in the world, called the Komodo Dragon (Varanuskomodoensis). It is the only place on earth, where the Komodo Dragons can be found. It is located off-shore; 20 miles by boat, away from the fishing town of Labuan Bajo; in East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Included in the Park are three major islands: Komodo, Rinca and Padar, as well as numerous islets, which together cover almost a 233 square mile area.

There are at least 2,500 Komodos that make this area their habitat which they also share with horses, wild buffalo, deer, wild boar, snakes, monkeys, and various types of birds… we also saw deer, birds and boar.

Only 25 percent of the visitors to Komodo Island, who hike to find the Dragons, actually get to see one. They are unpredictable, and elusive creatures. Today, we got to see them, during a guided hike for about an hour, in the unrelenting heat of the sun.

So Worth It!

The approach to Komodo Island 🌴

We originally flew into Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, where we enjoyed a few fun days. From there, we flew to Labuan Bajo, which is the most popular, closest, and affordable location to stay, when wanting a visit to Komodo National Park.

From the harbor, of Labuan Bajo, we boarded a speedboat, where we would spend almost 12 hours exploring these gorgeous chain of islands…. on the map, you can see Komodo National Park outlined in red.
