“USA 🇺🇸 ~Oregon at Crater Lake National Park”

We absolutely lucked out with a sunny day and clear roads!!!

We left from Klamath Falls and drove as far as the beginning of the Scenic Rim Drive at Crater Lake.

The snow was up to about eight feet in some places, on each side of the road.
For obvious reasons, the Rim Drive was closed.

We parked Jonah near the lodge… well I saw a roof sticking out of the snow, so I think it was the lodge. Maybe it was the Ranger Headquarters.

We got out and climbed through the snow, where heavy equipment had pushed through the bank of snow. It was just enough to get us over to the edge of the winter wonderland and view the Caldera and the Lake.

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States and the seventh deepest lake in the world.

Crater Lake National Park is in Southern Oregon, in the Cascade Mountains.
The lake (1,943 feet deep) lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, and was created when the 12,000 foot high Mount Mazama collapsed, 7,700 years ago, following a large eruption.

Because the lake is filled, almost entirely by snowfall, it is one of the clearest lakes in the world.

Crater Lake National Park is comprised of 183,224 acres of mountains, peaks, evergreen forests, and lake.
The ranging elevations throughout the park provide diverse habitats for an array of wildlife.

The snow was so deep, at one point I sunk up to my hip with one leg. My boot shape/space froze instantly under the snow and I was really stuck. I wiggled my foot out of said boot, then Daryl dug down to retrieve my boot. That was totally freaky!
I’m sure it was pretty funny looking, too! 🤣

We spent almost three hours on this round trip, and only about 15 minutes at Crater Lake.
We loved every minute of it.

There were no people around and the one building looked buried and closed. Staying on the road, had we been able to continue; as in driving the rim view route, there would be only snow banks to see.
One would also need snow shoes to do any hiking around right now, up and over those snow banks.

⬆️ We came in to the South Entrance

I loved seeing Crater Lake with the snow, but with no hot cocos for us, at the lodge, like we had  hoped, we got back in Jonah and headed back to The Whale.

It was a very nice outing!

Tomorrow we move to Prineville, Oregon

⬆️ This map is very off. It was 57 miles and closer to a 1.5 hour drive
