“Romania in Rasnov”

We tasked ourselves for an engagement with Rasnov Fortress. We set off for the day to head up the cobblestone road winding up to what we had heard was closed but the website said it was open.

At the castle there Is a train like tram pulled by tractors that takes us to the top. The entrance is blocked off and a well worn trail that was not safe was just off to the side. Soon we find ourselves climbing the slippery slope, only to find there is no way to enter the Fortress. Disappointed we leave, and  then on to the next destination.

The old town center lies just below and a great Church is there. The most interesting areas are the old part of town and the center is the most developed and organized.

A short drive drive we come to Brașov, Transylvania where the Black Church is located. Another interesting center or square surrounded the area with other interesting buildings. Restaurants and coffee shops along with shops of all sorts.

The Black Church has a dark history as the name seems to imply. As many places photography is not allowed so we had to hide o take a photo. Two people are the camera police and they are watching most of our moves. As a result our photos are few and not very good. We did get some snaps of the exterior and the great doors.

Fagaras Fortress was our next destination. This like most of the roads was under construction and restoration. They are spending a lot of resorces to make this fortress a world class destination. Furniture is being built and furnishings are being displayed in many of the rooms. The mote is full with water giving reflections of the progress.

Sibiau was our final location and the place we lay our head.We find a magical city and as always we are drawn to the old center. The streets are always very narrow with mostly one way street. Trying to find a hotel is very difficult and most are in pedestrian squares. We found a two hundred year old building that has been restored using the old timbers as stylized design elements in our new home for the night.
