“Montenegro And COVID-19 Free”

With negative tests in hand, we climbed back up the mountain road to the border. Looking at our passport the agent sees I was born in Texas. He wanted me to put on my ten gallon Texas hat. I think he wanted a picture with me and the hat I did not have.

Just past the border check we see this poor dog sprawled across the middle of the road, and a sad thought in my mind, when suddenly the dog jumps up to move out of the way. With a sigh of relief we watch the dog spin as he rose and greeted us at my car door. Wishing we had a steak to give to the healthy dog, we drove off to our next destination.

We pass four cows in the road, just as fat as could be, for everything is richly green around them for good grazing. Their utters so engorged with milk, they extend behind their back thighs. One calf was suckling, with cream flowing down its chin.

A huge cumulus cloud up ahead, dropped quarter sized rain on our windows. Sun still out, but no rainbow in sight. The trees are tall and the sky has loomed large. We stop for a moment to reset our google map, and just off the road we see two birch trees. The wind is making every leaf twist in the wind at the speed of sound. So up ahead I see what looks like heavens gate opens up in the sky. A glow, like rays from the pearly gates, send shafts of increasing intensity of light. The storm was over and the gates opened up to rich sky full of white clouds and glistening trees of 24 shades of green; cleared areas with grass so green it makes the cows grin.

We pass a small stand with flats of red something. I know that color, so I whipped a u-turn as Bunny’s ears unfolded. What are you doing? I could  barely hear her, for I was on a mission. I pull up to a tiny spot off the road. I jump out and buy a kilo of raspberries for 2.5 euros. We have only had berries this good one other time, and that was in Kosovo, but they were not this cheap. I had previously purchased some dried smoked meat that I had thinly sliced. We ate the smokey meat and now the raspberries, as we watched the dynamic scenery pass by

We slept so well we decided to stay another night. After getting up and having breakfast, I make another run for more raspberries. We gorge on a bowl of raspberries with thick cream. I can only imagine your mouth salivating as you read this.

We took a drive on some side roads today. So beautiful and peaceful. We saw some tucked away churches and Monasteries after driving down one-lane roads. Meeting oncoming traffic was seldom, but nerve wracking, when we did. The roads had thick ferns growing in hedge style next to the roads. The drop off was steep with deep ruts and potholes in parts of the roads.
