“Syros, Greece”

Our goal, coming to this island, was to extend our visa. We wanted some freedom that COVID 19 took away from us. Freedom to visit the EU or even Greece. We paid for a cruise that we can not take, we will need to delay our cruise until they go bankrupt or until springtime. The cruise line is legally bound to refund our money but has failed to do it. I fear it is because they are on the brink of bankruptcy.

Walking through the streets we find a fascinating village full of magnificent time worn buildings and churches.

The streets so narrow I have to close my eyes as I drive past parked cars with inches to spare. Streets turn into staircases with endless steps. The churches are so grand and ornate, they take our breath away. The ocean is so pure and blue, translucent with marble rocks visible at great depth.

The streets are paved with limestones and marble. The sidewalks are random marble pieces from the remnants of marble used to build this city. The buildings are made from marble stones cemented together using volcanic ash from the many volcanos that built these Cyclades Island that dots the Mediterranean Sea south of Greece.

Many of the ancient buildings are mere shells of their formal past. Standing with tattered wall and missing floors, doors and window barley hanging on. They give the city a texture, a feel of future possibility. The renovations of most buildings make the future look bright for this cultural gem.
