“Greece 🇬🇷 ~Mykonos is Beautiful!”

“Can Anybody Say Mamma Mia?”

WOW, seriously, WOW!

The good news is:
The puddle jumper plane; 1/2 full, got us to Mykonos from Athens in 50 minutes, and this Island is stunning!

The other news:
As of noon today, business, including restaurants and coffee shops shut down in all of Greece.

We won’t starve, as there a few “delivery only” options, from local food sources, according to our host, where we can choose to get something to eat. We have a fridge in our room, and there is a market that remains open, as well as a bank and a pharmacy.

This might not be the dream experience we envisioned, for our Greek Island getaway, but we adjust our thinking to enjoy an empty Island, and mostly empty hotels (sans a few other guests) of touristy crowds, in the same paradise it always has been!

There is a couple from Colombia, here at the hotel, who’s flight got cancelled due to CoronaVirus, so they are unable to return home, and they are trying to figure out what to do, and where to go.

We are pretty sure we can complete our time in Greece; ending back in Athens, but who knows; as we require an operating Ferry to take us from here to Santorini in a few days. We already bought the tickets.

We do have bus tickets, out of Greece, to Albania on the 22nd. This would be our second European we planned on our European itinerary, (through mid June), so we do not require plane travel. This might be to our advantage. We shall see.

The Greek Islands are called The Cyclades:
The name Cyclades means “encircling islands,” and they are so named because theyform a rough circle around the sacred island of Delos (Dílos), which was the legendary birthplace of Artemis and her brother Apollo. Virtually all of the islands have some archaeological interest.
The Cyclades includes about 220 islands, the major ones being Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Folegandros, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Syros, Tinos, and Thira or Santoríni.
Volcanic eruptions that took place before 35.000. 000 years (with the volcanic eruption of Santorini, 17th- 16th century B.C. being the most important) constitute part of the geological disruptions that shaped Aegais. In fables, Cyclades are connected with Poseidon in whom it’s imputed their creation.
These islands also played a major role in the Persian invasion of Greece between 492 and 479 BCE as major naval bases for both sides. The Cyclades remained important to Greece for their mineral resources, trading ports, and fishing industry, and later played a similar role in the time of the Romans.
