“The Road to Albania”

The Gypsy tail winds are picking up again and pushing us to new adventures and sights. Time and border restrictions have been on our side. With an extension on our Greek Visa we squeaked us out of having to fly home. We noticed many people protesting, they must not want us to come home yet. Albania’s borders have opened, so we will spend the summer there.

The coast is very Similar to Greece, except for the tall mountains, as it also bordered by the Adriatic Sea. We are looking forward to cool breezes.  As we approach Albania, the mountains rise with ferocity.  The violent rise of the crust was evident in the canyons as we approached the pass. The stratification layers where wedged upward in a dramatic incline.   Thousands of layers of rocks all pointing to the peaks. The twisted road took us through forest and mountain villages with springs with filling stations that people line up to fill vessels. The mountains dominate the terrain very close to the shores of the Adriatic Sea. Villages have one way in and a climb to exit. Going from one village to another is not evident and the road signage is limited. We did make some wrong turns but getting lost is how you get found.

We past several churches perched high on hills and surrounded by green trees. We climbed unkept roads to catch the views  and a chance to enter the sanctuary on the hills. The time was well spent and the treasure of experiencing these holly sites was wonderful. The views were breathtaking and worth the time to take in its heavenly sights. The doors are unlocked for the chance of a quick prayer. Then off we were in search of more adventures.
