“India 🇮🇳 ~Ellora and Ajanta Stone Carved Caves and Temples”

We had an early start with lots of rain pouring down on this self-tour day. We had two destinations in mind; both being ancient stone-carved cave Temples. We had left Goa, and traveled inland for aways, still in the Maharashtra Province, and found a hotel for a few nights then hired another driver to get us to the carved temples.

These ancient sites are a bit out of the way, but it was all very well worth the effort. It was a full days drive, plus the time it took to walk the sites. The roads were terrible and we ended up getting a flat, but the driver managed to get it fixed while we toured and was there to take us to the next stop.

Both sites were extremely interesting and I’m so glad we got to see them. Keep in mind, the two sites are not close together, so give yourself a full day to see both, and that’s a stretch to do. We felt rushed, and it was an exhausting day to boot! Maybe a night in between would have been better.

We were completely wet and tired, by the end of our big day, and all I could think about was a hot soak in the tub and dinner back at our hotel. Daryl started my bath, while I relaxed, when all of a sudden our whole room was flooded! We got the water off and called the front desk. No English, but we tried to tell them about the flood and to bring a mop and bucket! Soon a gentleman came to the door with extra towels. Ha!  We got switched to another room, but no tub. 😝. I took that as a sign. Dinner was very good and after that, we were ready to call it an early night!

UNESCO Ajanta Stone-Carved Cave-Temples:

These Stone-carvings are universally regarded as masterpieces of Buddhist religious art. The caves were built in two phases, the first starting around the 2nd century BC, and the second occurring from 400–650 AD, according to older accounts, or in a brief period of 460–480 AD according to later scholarship.
