“Armenia 🇦🇲 ~Local Artists Ruzan Khalatyan and Ruben Babsyan and More”

On this occasion, we did not stop for a rest, as we feel plenty energized. Besides needing to get laundry done, the weather took a turn, which made driving unsafe, and definitely un-fun!

Things happen just as they should at times and our stop-over in Garni was meant to be! What a joy and an honor to get to stay in such a lovely place, with wonderful hosts. Sometimes it’s not always about sightseeing, but simply put; feeling a connection to a country and her people is quite special and memorable, too. We figure out the language barrier, with a little help from the daughter (by phone) who lives in California. Come to find out, our hosts have visited California and know exactly where Laguna Beach is. This made us feel so close to our home, as this world is not so big sometimes! We have certainly enjoyed the opportunity to feel happy to be where we are and living in the moment, because sometimes making plans is just so inconsequential at times.

This afternoon, we got to take a tour of the Studio and Art Gallery. I would like to share some photos of their artwork.

The patio entrance to the Gallery and Studio
The sun is trying really hard to come out! We need roads to dry up and fog to lift! Tomorrow the forecast indicates sunny skies… for three days! After tomorrow we hope to ha e better roads and we will get under way!
Two years ago, our hosts traveled to California and showed their art in an exhibition in Glendale. We see first hand how talented both these artists are. Their names are written on the left side.
Here we are with Ruzan. Such a sweet woman.
Ruzan does mostly colorful woven tapestry. Here colors and designs tell a story. I’m definitely drawn to her work.
The oil painting on the left, is the same designs as the woven art behind our bed in our room.(see below). It’s my favorite. If so could, I would buy the woven art.
Ruben does abstract paintings. So interesting and unique
I love this painting
The studio is in full operation during the warmer summer months
Adam and Eve. The blue, green, turquoise symbolizes “paradise.”
From the Art Studio, you can see the little apartment we are staying in. The property has fruit treess and a place for a large garden.
In the background is the location of the Garni Temple (see below)
Not a great pic across the way, but it’s the Garni Temple (Roman)
FACEBOOK INFORMATION. They sell their art. Take a look at their page

In addition to our Gallery tour, we were surprised to learn of the family ancestral home, still intact on the property. The artist; Rubens’ dad was born in this stone house, and the inside has many original relics from when the tiny stone home was lived in. Daryl took photos with his Nikon, so his are much better in his blog post, but my iPhone photos turned out pretty good, too.

The great grandparents of Ruben the artist

Baby cradle!
Kitchen items
This barrel is set up on a swing. It churned butter, and yogurt

Finally, Last night we enjoyed a nice meal at the nearby restaurant 7QAR. We got complimentary cookies

Lamb Stew, which was actually like a stew!
Armenian Pasta with yogurt. Tasty
A salad, served hot
Like Russian Tea cakes without the powdered sugar

  1. Looks absolutely wonderful – I love the immersion in their art! Learning about the work directly from the artist must make it even more magical. <3
