“Turkey 🇹🇷 ~Istanbul is Very Enjoyable!”

As with any of our outings in this fine city, we wait for a sunny day. The temperatures are perfect this time of year to explore Istanbul, and because we have extra days, it’s doable to wait out the rainy days, then go, when the sun shines! It’s warm in direct sun, and cool in the shade, during the middle of the day. Wear layers, and you will be comfortable. In the mornings and evenings, it’s always a bit chilly In a wonderful way!

With a sunny day, the fishers of men come out, to drop their lines in the sea. They have good luck, as we see the fish caught. A bit on the small size, but if one catches many, then a family dinner is possible.

Today, we started out walking. We went as far as I could go, where we knew where we were at. After this vigorous hike uphill, we flagged down a taxi (Taski). With a photo of Remli Castle; our final destination, we were off!

After exploring the Castle, we walked across the road, and sat on one of the many benches on this long stretch of pedestrian access and bike way, to just take it all in. Such a beautiful day, and people-watching is never dull. More fishermen and even fisherwomen, were reeling them in. The Black Sea is not far away, so the waters are salt and fresh combined.
The busy shipping lane is also quite entertaining. It’s the most narrow, so pilot boats must be required.
Just opposite of the Remli Castle, we just visited, there is the Anadolu Hisarı Castle; another Ottoman fortress located on the Anatolian side and constructed about 60 years earlier (1390-1395) than Remli Castle, as an observation post and safe point for a small number of Ottoman troops
If you love cats, you will enjoy Istanbul, as there are MANY. Some are friendly like these two kitties, and some are skittish. The locals look after the feral animals, so they have water and food
I could not identify the country this ship hailed from, but it looked like a Navy ship and Sailor personnel to me
The “Polis” were in a big hurry in this photo

We worked up an appetite on our walk of over five miles and the equivalent of 28 floors! There is little flat service in Istanbul, once a person leaves the banks of the Bosphorus, so plan on incline, if walking. This restaurant is right near the Remli Castle

From a far distance, this ancient aqueduct can be seen. It is still being restored, and the workers have done an amazing job. It’s enormous and beautiful. In modern times, the roadway was built right below it.
The Valens Aqueduct (Turkish: Bozdoğan Kemeri) was ordered to be built by the Emperor Valens in the 4th Century, in order to meet the water needs of the city.  This impressive structure, and its 3,025 feet, brought water to the city for 15 centuries; through the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, and it’s still stands today.
The building of the two-story aqueduct began in the Belgrade forest, from where it ran to a large cistern in Beyazıt, supplying Ottoman and Byzantine palaces and fountains with water along the way. The water was transported via cement channels, and later iron pipes. This major source of water for the city until the development of modern water distribution in recent times, but this city’s most distinctive and important historical remains, as a reminder of Istanbul’s amazing history.
I found this interesting….. there are many, many framed black and white photos of a bygone area, hung in many places along the main roadways in the city; towards Taskin district. How they survive the inclement weather, I do not know. But they were fun to look at
