“Turkey 🇹🇷 ~ Fatih District in Istanbul”

Walking through the Arasta Bazaar
Costumes~ a form of advertising, here
Beautiful arrangement of spices
“Sleepy Time Tea” .. a mix of lemons, pomegranate flower and other flowers. It smelled heavenly, so I got some
Evidence of Gladiator-style fighting arenas are found in Turkey. Here in the photo, below where the children are playing on their playground at recess, is where the lions were kept, in preparation of the games; in ancient times.
The Hagia Sophia, whose name means “holy wisdom,” is a domed monument originally built as a cathedral in Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) in the sixth century A.D.
In its 1,400 year life-span it has served as a cathedral, mosque and now a museum. When it was first constructed, Constantinople was the capital of the Byzantine Empire. This state, officially Christian, originally formed the eastern half of the Roman Empire and carried on after the fall of Rome.
Sultanahmet or “Blue Mosque”
Completed in 1616, the Blue Mosque is still used as a house of worship, despite also hosting some four to five million tourists, annually.
Greek influence here… like the Gyros, but no lamb to be found. Instead, we have beef or chicken
Government recipient..the tag on its ear indicates this dog is protected. It’s a welfare dog, cared on by a program which pays for their veterinary bills. We do notice there are no young dogs to be seen. There are plenty of dogs, but they are seniors, so the program to control the feral dog program appears to be a success. With the spaying and neutering, one day there will be no more dogs or cats without human homes
From the Europe side of Turkey, we can see the Asia side of Turkey, across the Bosphorus Strait
We walked another 10,000 steps; including four plus miles and the equivalent of eight floors, but we did take the tram across the Bosphorus, from our flat
This is the tram roadway… and heads up, the sidewalks are very narrow, so there is no room to get sloppy as you walk. The tram moves quickly by, and often, so hug the building, not the roadway, when they go by! Yikes!
